Leonard Cohen의 곡 "Nancy"에 얽힌 이야기.

 

Nancy는 Leonard Cohen이 알고 있던 실존인물이었으며, 자신이 Nancy의 조카라고

이야기하는 Tim 이라는 사람이 이 곡의 배경을 이야기해주고 있다.

"Nancy 는 1943년 10월 20일 생으로서 어려서부터 사고뭉치였고 오래도록 정신과치료를

받았다. 1963년 무렵부터 여행사가이드로 일하면서, Mike라는 남자을 만나 사랑에 빠지게 되어

사내아이를 낳았다. 하지만 그당시 사회분위기로도, 가족 분위기로도 Nancy가 미혼모로서

그 아이를 키운다는 것은 힘들고 어려웠으며,결국 다른 탁아시설에 아이를 입양시켜야만 했다.

그후 Nancy는 심한 우울증으로 고통받다가 결국 1965년 3월 10일 부모님 집 욕실에서

남동생(Tim의 부친)의 총으로 자신의 머리를 쏘아 자살하고 말았다.

Leonard Cohen 의 친구중 Morton Rosengarten 이라는 조각가가 Nancy를 Leonard Cohen에게 소개했고, 그후 Cohen은 Nanacy 를 알게 되어 친분을 쌓게 되었고,이후 Nancy 의 자살 소식을 듣고 Leonard Cohen이 그때의 느낌을 가지고 이 곡을 쓰게 되었다." 라고...
